Francis Wilson served in Company I. 79th Illinois Infantry in the Civil War.

I. 79th Illinois Inf. at Camp Terry, IL, on Aug 28, 1862. He was described as 6'1" tall with dark hair, gray eyes, and light complexion, born in Clark County, IL. He was mustered out at Nashville, TN on June 12, 1865.

During his service, his regiment took part in the Battles of Stones River, Liberty Gap, Lookout Mountain, Chickamauga, the Atlanta Campaign and the Battle of Nashville.

Francis was a member of Post #5 Grand Army of the Republic in Chicago, IL.

When he died on Jan 28, 1907 in Cook County, IL, his death certificate stated he was a retired widowed man, born in 1837 in Illinois, his father was born in NY and his mother in IL. and he was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery on Feb 1, 1907
