Of Bonne Terre, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 surrounded by family at the age of 76.
He was born in St. Marys, Missouri on January 6, 1940. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis in 1957 and continued on to receive a degree in engineering. He worked for MSD for 30 years, retiring in the year of 2000 at the age of 60. Lanny was married to Linnie Blankensip on August 27, 1960 and they were married for 56 years. He very much enjoyed genealogy, photography, restoring old cars, fishing, serving in his church and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his mother, Margarette O'Linda Whalen; his wife, Linnie (Blankenship) Layton, his four children, Sherri (Layton) Fraley, Stephani (Layton) Cooney, Staci (Layton) Blayney and Stephen Layton; granchildren, Maia (Pereira) Gilliam, Alexis Pereira, Brittani Cooney, Ashli (Cooney) Pehrson, Kelly Cooney, Tristan Cooney, Tyler Layton and Hayden Layton; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Lynne Pehrson.
Lanny was preceded in death by his father, James Layton, Jr. and by his sister Maxine (Layton) Blackledge.
