Harold “Joe” Burton, longtime Payne County resident, passed away early Monday morning, May 16, 2016 in the Hillcrest Cushing Hospital at the age of 64 years.

The son of the late James W. Burton and Violet L. Needles Burton, Joe was born on October 19, 1951 in Vaughn, New Mexico and was raised and educated in the Ripley and Perkins area.

He was united in marriage to Mary Russell on July 5, 1970 and to this union three children, David, Angela and Crystal were born.  He later married Anita Snake on March 22, 1988, and with this marriage he gained one daughter Michele Renae.

Joe had worked at the Cushing Post Office for many years prior to working for Burlington Carriers and most recent Kinder Dozer Service.  He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vietnam.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden during this time of year and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving include his wife Anita; his children, David Washam and his wife Michelle, Angela Jones and her husband Robert, Crystal Phillips and her husband Stephen and Michele Renae Burton; his siblings, Jimmy Burton, Lorene Burton  and Geraldine Lynn; eleven grandchildren, (several in which called him Dad); nine great-grandchildren,  several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant brother.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home with Associate Pastor David Suit of the Perkins River of Life Church officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
