Records for Jacob are hard to find. He is not the Jacob Reed Rich who married Nancy Holmes in 1799 Braintree, MA. (That couple are buried in South Hill Cemetery in Stockbridge, VT).
He is buried next to presumably his 1st wife, Polly Rich (maiden name unknown). She died in Jan 1826.
Two of their children were Daniel and Jacob Jr. (there were more). The may have had about 8 kids at least.
Per his Probate he had married again, as his widow Mary Rich claimed a Widow's Dower in his probate in Mar 1827. His son Jacob Jr was the administrator of his probate. In looking at the probate records for Jacob and brother Henry, who died Oct 26, 1826, it is apparent that the widow claiming a dower in both is the same Mary Rich. The signature matches. So it appears that Jacob married his widowed sister-in-law, Mary, after his brother died in 1826 (or the beginning of 1827). Then Jacob died in Mar 1827. In 1827 she was requesting a dower and personal property in Jacob's probate; and in 1828 she was still requesting a widow's share and personal property in her 1st husband Henry's probate.
Mary's maiden name is listed Mary Blake, on son Enoch Cheney Rich's death certificate. She was Mary (Blake) Rich, daughter of Elisha Blake & Mary Saunders of Percy, NH and widower of his brother William Henry Rich. Some also list Jacob's 1st wife as Mary "Polly" Spencer. I can not find anything to verify her maiden name.
