Don Baker, age 90, of Kyles Ford, passed away Thursday night, May 12, 2016 at Church Hill Health Care and Rehab after an extended illness.

Don was born December 26, 1925 in Hancock County, where he was raised and lived all his life.

He was a veteran of World War II, Army Company L, 333rd Infantry serving in Germany. He participated in the Rhineland Campaign. He received the Combat Infantryman's Badge and Good Conduct Medal. He was also, a member of American Legion Post 183.

He accepted Christ at the age of 70 and was a member of Livesay's Chapel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Sizemore) Baker, parents, Brownlow and Mary (Fleenor) Baker; step mother, Icy Collins; brothers, Ray, Alvin, Carl, Bufford, Earl, Dennis and infants, Melvin and Luke; sisters, Lois Kinsler, Kathlene Baker and Sharon Ann Baker.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the Wing B nurses and caregivers at Church Hill Rehab, the nurses and support staff at Caris Hospice and the doctors at ETSU Family Practice for providing excellent care throughout Don's declining health.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Special music will be provided by Carolyn Lawson, Jennifer Livesay and Opal Johnson. Graveside Service will be held Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery with the Tennessee Army National Guard and the Hawkins County Color Guard providing military honors. The family request for those attending the graveside to meet at the cemetery.
