Agnes Mae Bailey Steele, 95, of Muscatine, formerly of Fort Madison, died at her granddaughter's home.

Born in Carterville, Ill., she was the daughter of Elmer and Bertie Shaver. On Dec. 15, 1952, she married Thomas Franklin Bailey in Fort Madison. He died April 6, 1978.

Mrs. Steele worked as a clerk for Sheaffer Pen Co. She also worked at Rashid Grocery and was a companion for an elderly woman.

She was a resident of Fort Madison most of her life. She was a past member of Rebecca Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Senior Citizen Club, RSVP, Welcome Wagon, Fort Madison Baptist Church and the Women's Mission Union of the Madison Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading the Bible, playing the piano, gardening and baking.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Schumaker–Kording of Muscatine and Sheila Martin of Dover, Mo.; nine grandchildren; several great–grandchildren; one sister, Gen Batzek of Calumet City, Ill.; nieces; and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, one son and two grandsons.

The graveside service was held at Soldier's Circle in Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison, with the Rev. Charles Zeck officiating.
