OBITUARIES--WILLIAM F. MAY, JR.
William Fred May, JR., 75 of Edmond passed away Saturday, June 7, 2003 in the Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 11, 2003 in the First Baptist Church of Mooreland, Oklahoma, with the Reverend Gerald Spriggs and Reverend Paul Blair officiating. Interment will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery under the direction of Billings Funeral Home, Mooreland, Oklahoma.
William Fred May, JR. was born March 30, 1928 to William Fred May, SR. and Ninnon E. Wilson May in Woodward County, Rural Route Curtis, Oklahoma in the house of his father's homestead on the side of Billy May Hill. Bill attended grade school at Hawkeye School District 177; and high achool in Mooreland. Bill worked for Cities Service Gas Company for fifteen years, then continued his edcation at Central State College in Edmond, earning both a B.A. and M.A. degree in Education. Bill taught school and was a conunselor in the Edmond school system for 25 years. He had a unique gift for workin with thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen year old students and was loved by many.
On August 5, 1948, Bill married Frances M. Patterson at the First Christian Church in Mooreland. To this union were born two daughters and one son. In 1965 Bill and Frances purchased the family homestead and farmed in the area until his death.
Bill was a gifted storyteller and capitivated his children and granchildren with stories of his childhood, youth and later life. He was a devpted husband, father, and grandfather and loved by all.
As a youth Bill accepted Christ and joined the Baptist Church. After becoming ill, Bill rededicated his life with the help of former student and local minister, Reverend Paul Blair.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. SR. and Ninnon May, infant brother and one sister, Rose Christine of Woodville, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Frances M. May of Edmond; a son William F. May III and wife Rhonda and their son Jonathan of Mustang; one daughter JoAnn Spriggs and husband Gerald of Waxahachie, Texas, and their three children, Stephanie Rieper and husband Trey, daughter, Kaitlyn and Amanda of Waxahachie, Texas; Robert F. Spriggs of Irving, Texas; and Lyndsey N. Spriggs of Waxahachie, Texas; another daughter, Carol M. Terry and husband S. Ross of McKinney, Texas and their three children Syndey D., Spencer C., and Lauren M.; and two sisters, Charlotte D. Malarchick of Roswell, N. M.; and D. Earnestine May of Oklahoma City; he will also be remembered by several relatives, nephew, nieces, neighbors and a host of friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Edmond Public Schools Scholarship Fund with the Billings Funeral Home, P.O. Box 106 Mooreland, Oklahoma 73852 as custodian.
