Sandy served in the Army during World War II. He was a spiritual leader for the Burnside Church of God. During his working career, Sandy had been employed as woodsman with Charlie Kime, Robert Rorabaugh and the Buterbaugh Lumber Company.
He had also worked maintaining highways and was an employee for 10 years in the railroad industry. Sandy married Cleo Winifred McDermott on Nov. 18, 1937.
In addition to his parents and wife, Sandy was preceded in death by his daughters Lynda Hope Barrows and Genevieve Winifred Prescott; grandson Christopher Pearce; brothers Robert Armstrong and Albert Verle Armstrong; and sisters Glendora E. Lloyd and Ruby Lawhead Bailey.
