Costume Designer. Turner was an award-winning costume designer best known for his creations for entertainment icons such as Cher, Lucille Ball, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, Marie Osmond, Dolly Parton and Diana Ross. Turner moved to Hollywood in the 1950s hoping to become an actor. When that didn't materialize, he landed a job as an assistant to Bob Mackie in the wardrobe department at NBC, and worked on shows hosted by Spike Jones and Dinah Shore. In the 1970s, he made a name for himself working with Mackie on 'The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour' and later, 'The Sonny and Cher Show'. He would go on head the wardrobe department at NBC for 20 years and over the course of his career, would win 5 Emmy Awards out of 23 nominations. He also did wardrobe for several Emmy and Academy Awards telecasts, as well as for the Kennedy Center's 25th anniversary show in 1996.
