LARKIN, Rachel L. (Martin) 98, of Clinton, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Manor on the Hill, Leominster. She is survived by one daughter, Maureen "Renie" Johnson, and her husband, Daniel LeBlanc, of Berlin; a sister, Doris Watkins, of Leominster; four grandchildren: Jennifer M. Larkin, Dr. Edmond Johnson, Lauren R. Johnson, and Danielle Johnson; a niece, Linda Muhnisky; a great-nephew, Anthony Muhnisky; three step-grandchildren: Carolyn Brodeur, Christopher LeBlanc, and Nathan LeBlanc; three step-great-grandchildren: Charlotte and Noble Beerworth, and Elliot Brodeur; her former son-in-law, Stephen Johnson; and her former daughter-in-law, Lydia Larkin. She was predeceased by her husband of seven years, Dr. John J. Larkin, Jr., who died in 1949, and their son, Dr. John J. Larkin, III, who died in 1998. Rachel was born in 1917 in Ayer, daughter of Thomas C. and Ruth H. (Hayden) Martin. She was a graduate of Leominster High School, and the former Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1938. Upon their marriage, Dr. and Mrs. Larkin settled in West Roxbury, where she remained until relocating to Clinton in 2002, to be closer to her daughter, Maureen. For 27 years until her retirement, she worked for the City of Boston as a School Nurse, a job that she was passionate about, as she was able to make a difference in the lives of her students. A woman with strong political views, she stayed current with the news, enjoyed walking, loved to travel to Ireland and England with her daughter, and enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod and in Florida, reading Agatha Christie mysteries, and watching old-time movies. She was a current member of St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish, Clinton, and a former long-time member of St. Theresa of Avila Parish, West Roxbury. Rachel's funeral will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016 from the McNally & Watson Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Private burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Sunday, May 15, 2016, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society , 9 Erie Drive, Suite 101, Natick, MA 01760
