She was born July 9, 1930 in Central Islip, N.Y., a daughter of the late Josiah and Mary Mernin Pulling. Sister Anne Frances graduated from St. Joseph Academy, Brentwood, N.Y., and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Misericordia University and a master's degree from Fordham University in 1968.
Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas on Sept. 8, 1948 and professed her vows on March 12, 1951. Sister taught in elementary schools in Rockville Center, Brooklyn, Altoona-Johnstown and Harrisburg. She was a member of the faculty of Mount Aloysius College, Cresson.
In addition to her ministry in education, Sister was the author of 12 books published by Arcadia. These books contained the local history of the towns where she taught. She authored books for children and her last book was an autobiography of Margaret Nash, a Navy nurse from Wilkes-Barre who served in the Philippines and was a great friend of the Sisters of Mercy. Sister was a student of Irish history and enjoyed visiting her relatives in County Cork and County Waterford, Ireland.
Sister Anne Frances was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Almira and brother Ezra.
She is survived by her Godchild, Rita Meinken; several cousins from New York and Ireland; and the Sisters of Mercy.
The celebration of her life will begin with a prayer service at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel at Mercy Center, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints/St. John of God Cemetery, Central Islip.
