Decatur, IL -- James Albert Brown, 86 of Decatur died at 9:54 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2016 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

A Memorial Service to celebrate James’ life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2016 at New Beginnings Church of God (2606 Route 121, Decatur, IL. 62526). Pastor Travis Bodden will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday January 17, 2016 from 3 to 5 p.m. and also one hour before the service on Monday. Burial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the church. Tanzyus-Logan Funeral Service and Care is in charge of the arrangements.

James was born October 1, 1929 in Clay County, Indiana the son of Elmer H. and Ethel (Edmonson) Brown. He graduated from Atwood-Hammond High School. James served in the U. S. Army in Germany. He worked as a Carman for the Wabash Norfolk and Southern Railroad. James enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking and time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion James Reeder Post 0770 in Atwood, and the Loyal Order of Moose. He married Marian Lee Birch on May 15, 1952 in Tuscola, IL.

Surviving is the love of his life, Marian Lee Brown, daughters, Kathryn Wiseley of Decatur, Mary (Gary) Swisher of Indianapolis, IN., grandchildren, Ryan, Heather, Stefanie, and Matthew, eleven great grandchildren, sisters, Doris Beasley of Mt. Zion, IL., Dora Murray of Arthur, IL., numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents and one sister Marie E. Brown.

James was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and he will be deeply missed.

The family wishes to thank the staff of DMH 4100, especially Beth and Dr. Stephen Goetter.
