Guy W. Moore, 93, retired News Branch Chief in the office of the Director, National Institutes of Health (NIH) died on November 13, 2015 of ripe old age.
Mr. Moore was born in Retta, OK on June 19, 1922. He graduated from Northern Oklahoma Junior College in 1942 and subsequently earned both his BA (1950) and his MA (1952) from the University of Oklahoma.
His MA in history, slightly recast, was published by the University of Oklahoma Press in 1954 as "The Case of Mrs. Surratt." The book was the first objective account of the controversial trial and execution of Mary Surratt for her alleged involvement in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Also, upon his retirement from NIH in 1979, he wrote "The NIH: How it Works," published in 1980.
After returning to Washington, DC from his appointment at the American Embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1946, he married Hazel Avenell Cartwright of Arlington, VA in 1948. She died in 1986 and remained the love of his life.
He is survived by two daughters and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be private. Murphy Funeral Home in Arlington, VA is serving the family.
