Hanferd Moen survived a mid-air plane crash by parachuting to safety. The crash occurred 25 miles southwest of Merced, California on 2/15/1944. He completed his training and became a pilot. He served in England, Belgium and France as a B-26 pilot with the Ninth Air Force. The Army Air Force awarded him the Purple Heart, the Air medal with six clusters and the ETO ribbon with six battle stars. He was promoted to Captain in the New Mexico Air National Guard in 1955. He married and had two children. He died at the age of 86 in 2011.
