Mary Alice Smith Stanfield, age 94, of the Chinquapin Grove community in Bluff City, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Gus and Audrey Lee Smith and was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clarence Stanfield; her daughter, Janet Overbay; and her sisters, Gladys Glover, Eva Theo Bartley, and Irene Lowrie.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Stephen Stanfield and wife, Judy of Bluff City; a grandson, Joshua Overbay and wife Ginny; great granddaughter, Annabelle Lee; a granddaughter, Jessica Overbay; her three sisters, Juanita Riley, Helen Galloway and husband Dr. J.M. Galloway and Joyce Blaylock and husband, Asa; and a special friend, Cookie Saylor.

A service to celebrate the life of Mary Alice Smith Stanfield will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church, 1727 Chinquapin Grove Road, Bluff City with Rev. Jamie Ferguson, Rev. Rusty Verran and Rev. Jerry Lowrie officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Greg Greene. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service at the church or at her residence at other times.

The graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Sunrise Cemetery in Bluff City. Active pallbearers will be Greg Greene, Randy Morris, David Montgomery, David Bartley, Barry Mounts and Don Friesland. Honorary pallbearers will be J.M. Galloway and Asa Blaylock. Everyone will meet at Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church at 12:15 PM on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
