She married Mark Rothko who was 19 years older, than her and divorced. He was born Markus Yakovlevich Rotkovich in Dvinsk, Russia (now Daugavpils, Latvia) September 25, 1903 the youngest of 4 children of Jacob (Yakov) Rothkowitz a pharmacist.
Mark died February 25, 1970 age 66 in NY City when his son was age 6. Mark had been drinking and smoking heavily against doctors advice. He was found dead on his kitchen floor of an aneurysm. He was an abstract expressionist painter of some renoun. He immigrated to the US in 1913 to Portland, OR with his a with his mother and elder sister Sonia. He and attended Yale on a scholarship for 2 years. His first wife: Edith Sachar (1912–1981).
The executors of Mark's estate were found liable for negligence and conflict of interest, and with Marlborough Gallery, were required to pay $9.2 million in damages to the estate.

He served in the Army Corps of Engineers in WW1, then married in Cleveland, June 8, 1919 Aldarilla Shipley, the daughter of James Jackson Shipley and N. Frances D. Jones. She died Feb 26, 1949 in Ohio.
