Born of German Immigrant parents, in London, England, he moved with his family to Winnipeg Canada in 1906. During the first Word War, he fought in Belgium and France, as a part of the Canadian Expeditionary Forces and was wounded in the battle for Amiens in August 1918.
In 1921, William immigrated to the United States. On 20 April, 1924, he married Eva Andrews of Boise, Idaho, where they settled and he worked for Capitol Furniture Company. Four children were born in Boise and after Capitol Furniture closed its doors in 1941 the family moved to Fallon Nevada.
When the children married and moved away, Bill and Eva moved to California; first to San Bernardino, and then to Sacramento where they remained until his death. Upon the death and burial of his widow in Bunkerville, Nevada, William's remains were moved from his crypt in Sacramento to be re-interred at her side.
