He was the son of Mitchell T. and Maude (Dove) Scott and married Cynthia Virginia Wilkinson. His obituary follows:

Thomas L. Scott, age 76 of Decherd, formerly of Estill Springs, died Saturday, January 25, 2003 at Southern Tennessee Skilled Care. He was born in Shelby County and was a retired policeman, last employed by Veteran's Administration Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was retired from the U. S. Air Force, having served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and of the Estill Springs First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Virginia Scott. He is survived by his son, James R. Scott of Decherd and his sister, Mary Johnson of Duncan, Arizona. Service was Monday, January 27, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. Jim Patton officiating. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester.
