Elbert Earl Ballew, 79, of Hamilton passed away peacefully Friday, May 13, 2016 surrounded by family. He was born February 3, 1937 in Middlesboro KY, the son of Press Lee & Tennie Aris (Carpenter) Ballew. Earl was born the 9th child of 16 children, he was educated in Claiborne County Tennessee. He worked on his family’s tobacco farm and sawmill before moving to Ohio to work in the construction industry, where he met the love of his life, Marie Miller.


On October 18, 1958 he married Marie and raised 5 children. Earl’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, who took pride in his work. He is survived by 3 sisters; Sherry Fuller, Carol (James) Lawson, and Retha (Jim) Bolton; 2 brothers, Roger (Karen) and Clarence (Kathleen); 5 daughters, Margie L. (Gene) Phelps, Robin Ballew , Bernice Mays, Kim Lehman, and Christina Sow; 3 sons, Lee Roy Ballew, Randy A. Moore and Jerry J. Harris; 10 grandchildren, Zack E. (Desiree), Adam W. and Bonnie E. Ballew, Shelley M. (Andy) Woedl, Stephen L. and Brad M. Fugate, Robert C. and Kyle L. Boomershine, and Lowell G. Phelps; 17 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Sandra K. Ballew; and many more nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 54 years, Marie (Miller); his son, James Daniel; grandson, James Daniel II; granddaughter, Jeanie L. (Drake) ; 6 brothers, Ed, Jim, Harv, Grady, Wayne, and Blayne; 4 sisters, Nellie Foster, Helen Rogers, Grace Sharp, and Gail Massengill.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 12:00 pm at the Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
