Butz Christian Ulric was born June 13, 1861 in York Twp, Noble County, near Wawaka. His parents were Christian and Mary Ley Butz. He was baptized in Cosperville, Ind. in 1866 by a Lutheran pastor, Rev. Grimm of Elkhart. In order to receive the necessary Christian training, his parents sent him to receive his instruction at Elkhart, where he was confirmed in 1877. March 25, 1886 he was united in marriage to Melissa Flinn of York Twp. This union was blessed with four children, one of whom died in infancy. He followed the occupation of a farmer up to about 1872, when he took up contracting and building, a calling which he followed the rest of his life. He is survived by his faithful helpmate; two sons, Herman and Halley; and one daughter, Mrs. Grace King; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, William and Frederick; and five sisters, Miss Minnie, Mrs. Anna Shisler, Mrs. Lena Wemple, Mrs. Ida Hoffman and Mrs. Clara Shaffer. Funeral was at the home Nov. 24, 1934, by Rev. M. F. Kretzman, assisted by Rev. Harold Luecke. Burial, Wright Cemetery. + 11-?-1934
