Virgil Ray Boozer, 92, of Spruce Pine, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 in the Brian Center. He grew up in Atlanta, GA and was the son of the late Vernon and Daisy Young Boozer and the husband of the late Vernelle Porter Boozer who passed away in 2008. He was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas Bradley Boozer and sisters: Vanessa Zaro and Josephine Johnson.

Virgil was a retired electrician for the Westinghouse Elevator Division. He served in the US Army stationed in the Pacific and the Panama Canal and was a member of the American Legion in Antigua, Guatemala. He also attended Freedom Baptist Church in Spruce Pine.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Boozer Kearns and husband Tim of Bakersville and two grandchildren: Jennifer and Brandon; and many friends in Guatemala.

Virgil's family will receive friends on Monday, May 16, 2016 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Bonner closing in prayer. Entombment will follow in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777
