Gary J. Shumate age 59 of Marion, Ohio passed away Monday, May 9, 2016 at his residence. Gary was born October 8, 1956 in Marion, Ohio to Marvin O. and Connie D. (Underwood) Shumate.
Gary graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1975. He was co-owner and operator of Pop Wylie’s in Marion for several years. Those who knew Gary know his love for music especially Frank Zappa, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and attending concerts. He was also a Die Hard Cleveland Browns Fan.
He is survived by his mother, Connie Shumate of Marion, his two sons, John Shumate of Marion, Neil Shumate of Marion, mother of his children, Cheryl Pfeiffer of Marion, his sister, Lori (William) Tiller Jr. of Marion, his aunt, Theresa Hanshaw of Marion, niece, Sherri (Sean) Coleman of Avon Lake, Ohio and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Shumate.
Per Gary wishes no services will be held, burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
His wishes per his mother were to be cremated and place at the foot of his father.
