Mrs. Solomon Sias
Mrs. Solomon Sias, after an illness of three weeks, passed away at her home in this city, Saturday morning at five o'clock. Funeral services were conducted at the house, Sunday afternoon by Rev. Upton, with a large crowd of friends and neighbors in attendance. Interment was made in the Appleton cemetery.
Ester Ann Ricker was born October 17th, 1831, at New Portland Maine. She was married to Solomon Sias May 22, 1851 at Charleston Me. Mr. and Mrs. Sias came to Minnesota in 1869 and located at Zumbrota. They came to Appleton in 1878. Thirty-one years age Mr. Sias built the Franklin House, hauling the lumber from Benson a distance of about twenty-two miles. Mrs. Sias served as hostess here, and later in the St. James, Mr. Sias having built the main part of this building some twenty-eight years ago. Later they built the Appleton house which stood on the present site of the old mill elevator.
Mrs. Sias was always a hard working woman and took her full share of the hardships of pioneer days. She was the last survivor of a large family of children.
To Mr. and Mrs. Sias were born three children two of whom with the aged husband survive the mother and wife, the children being Mrs. Mary E. Stotts, of Appleton, DeForest J. Sias, of Madison, Minn.
Mrs. Sias death was due to old age. Her husband, who is eleven years her senior, is now very feeble and it is thought that he will not long survive her.
