Joel Lance Strickland, Sr., 77, died Thursday evening at his residence in Manor following an extended illness.

He was a native and life-long resident of Manor, son of the late Lance Lewis Strickland and Mary Edna McQuaig Strickland. He was also preceded in death by a sister Sara Beth Wilburn.

He was a 1957 Graduate of Manor High School and was stationed in Germany for 2 years while serving in the United States Army. Mr. Strickland retired as owner of Strickland Logging and was the former owner of the Dairy Queen in Homerville and Blackshear. He was a member of Victory Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Paulette Waldron Strickland of Manor, a daughter, Rebecca Anne Strickland Baldree (husband Nathan) of Manor, a son, Joel Lance Strickland, Jr. of Manor; two grandchildren, Trevor Dawson Baldree and Reagan Alexandria Baldree, a sister, Rosemary Williams of Callahan, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday (May 15, 2016) at Victory Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday at Victory Methodist Church in Manor.
