He was born July 31, 1922 in LaCross, Virginia a son to the late Robert Leigh & Carrie (Carwile) Jones.
Bob had resided in Sturgis since 1973. On June 5, 1954 he married Josephine Theresa Napoli in Chicago, Illinois.
Bob grew up on a farm in Virginia and participated in the operation of it while he was living at home. After high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII earning the rank of Airman Third Class. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) and graduated with a degree in engineering. Bob was an industrial engineer specializing in efficiency and was a time management expert. He and his family moved to locations all over the country as his expertise was needed. Bob came to Sturgis to work at Paramount Furniture Company and the Harter Corporation and in later years worked as a time management consultant of Elkhart Products. His services were needed until he retired at age 74.
Bob was a thrill seeker, bringing his entire family to amusement parks to enjoy the roller coasters and other thrill rides. When he couldn’t find a family member to ride, he would team up with children standing in the turnstile lines. At age 74, Bob took up freefall skydiving, which he did a number of times over three summers. He was a gentleman farmer, riding his bicycle across town to the Kiwanis Gardens for many years, and raising plentiful crops of vegetables which he shared with others.
Bob was extremely active and could be seen riding his bike, walking to church every Sunday, or as many people around town knew him, as the really nice man walking his dog through the neighborhoods. The children he encountered along the route became fast friends and they would be sure to visit and tell stories to each other along the way. Bob also enjoyed working on cars and playing card games, but his true passion was his family, close and extended. Everyone who knew Bob admired his humor and his gentle warmth.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jay, his daughters; Ellen Jones of Sturgis, Janice (Scott) Davidson of Sturgis and Linda (Daniel) Holmquist of Lancaster, California, his Son; Peter (Leilani) Jones of New Boston, his Brother; Robert Leigh (Jewel Ann) Jones of Richmond, Virginia.
