Eagle River, Alaska, resident Denise C. Edwards, 43, died of cancer on October 8, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Eagle River Saturday, Oct. 14. Rev. Leo Walsh officiated. Interment followed at Anchorage Memorial Park.
Edwards was born September 20, 1963, at Hot Springs with her twin brother, Daniel. She lived in Igloo, SD, where her father worked at Black Hills Army Depot. She moved with her family to Eagle River in December, 1965. She graduated from Chugiak High School in 1981 where she won most valuable gymnast and other awards.
Edwards had worked in bookkeeping for many years at Totem Equipment Supply in Anchorage. She worked many other jobs in Alaska, including maid service for Black Angus Inn in Anchorage and cannery work in Sterling. Denise also held office jobs in St. Paul, MN.
She was always a very independent person who made many life-long friends. She cared deeply for her fiancé, parents, brothers, sister, and extended family. She had special feelings for horses and her dog, Coco. Interests included traveling, snow machining, skiing and fishing. Her lively spirit and energy will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by her fiancé, Stacey Walters, and his sons, Brandon and Colton, and her parents, Donald and Gloria, all of Eagle River; brothers, Charles of Eagle River, Joe (Nora) of Trapper Creek, Daniel (Tracy) of Wasilla, Alaska; sister, Diane (Daniel) Dvorak of Yankton; uncles, James (Evelyn) Edwards of Brookings, Michael (Wilma) Curtin of Rapid City, Dennis (Loretta) Curtin of Ventura, CA; aunts, Doris Edwards of Florida, Gloria Edwards of Pickstown, Mary (John) Huneke of Decatur, GA, and Virginia Curtin of Littleton, CO. Denise is also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Charles H. (Myrtle) Edwards; maternal grandparents, James (Opal) Curtin; and her uncles, Lendall Edwards and Charles H. Edwards, Jr.
