Paul, Jr. graduated from Albert Harris High School, class of 1965. He then graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) in Roanoke, Va. and was immediately recruited by General Electric Medical Systems Division in Salem, Va. He served GE for 30+ years and retired as a Field Engineer. During his tenure at GE and after his retirement, he served the Roanoke community; coached little league baseball and football teams and was affectionately known as "Coach Penn" by the young players, their families, and friends; worked for the Federal Census Bureau up through the 2010 Census; and provided electrical technical support to ADM.
Preceding Paul A. Penn Jr. in death were his paternal and maternal grandparents; his mother; and several aunts and uncles. Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving father, Paul Penn Sr. (Martinsville, Va.); sisters, Winona L. Penn (District of Columbia), Sandra P. Davis (Bob) (Roanoke, Va.); nieces, Kimeka D. Young (Jeffrey) (Germantown, Md.), Michelle D. Lancaster (Carlos) (Lanham, Md.); and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held noon Saturday, May 14, 2016 at High Street Baptist Church, 2302 Florida Ave. NW, Roanoke, VA 24017 with the Rev. Serenus T. Church Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, VA
