Rev. James Henry "Jim" Cunningham was born 1 Apr 1879 in Decherd, Franklin County, Tennessee to Thomas Mabry Cunningham and Sarah Alice Coulson.

Thomas Mabry Cunningham was born 1 Jun 1849 in Tennessee to James W. Cunningham and Angeline "Ann" (née unknown).
Sarah Alice Coulson was born 14 Apr 1853 to Henry Henderson Coulson and Mary Magdalene Vaughan (a Cherokee).

Jim Cunningham and Lucille Ann "Lucy" Miles were married 25 May 1901. Lucy was the daughter of Thomas Silas Miles and Adaline "Addie" Rye. Jim and Lucy had 5 children.

The family contracted small pox and recovered. When Jim went to bring Lucy home from the hospital, he was notified that she had died from septicemia, caused by the miscarriage of her 6th child. The family was further devastated when their home and belongings had to be burned due to contamination.
Jim quit medical school and became a traveling preacher. He was known as the "Walking Bible" for both his travels and his ability to quote scripture from memory. He had a servants heart and truly loved the Lord.

Jim met his 2nd wife (also a preacher) on a train. He married Annie Laura Stephens Oct 1916. Annie was the daughter of James Fields Stephens and Nancy O'Malley "Mallie" Layton. Jim and Annie had 4 children.
