Kara Jean Powell (McCarthy), 47, of Jacksonville, Fla. and formerly of Seaford [DE], died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at her sister's residence in Lower Macungie Township, Pa., after a long and courageous battle with...[brain] cancer.
Kara was born in Haverhill, Mass., on Sept. 11, 1968, to the late James F. and Estelle B. (Thomas) McCarthy of Seaford. She was the wife of Ronald Christian "Chris" Powell.
Kara worked for Walgreens as a pharmacy technician in Jacksonville.
Kara was a staunch advocate for animal well-being, adopting and volunteering her time with many animal rescues.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her siblings: Liz Braun (Johannes) of Germany, Jimmy McCarthy (Allison) of Seaford, Kathy Campfield of Womelsdorf, Pa., Dan McCarthy of Seaford, Jeff McCarthy (Kelly) of Seaford, and Tricia McCarthy (Mike) Feo with whom Kara resided [during her final half week]; many nieces and nephews; and many friends she considered family.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 532 E. Stein Hwy., Seaford.
