"Samuel J. W. Reynolds of Utica, who for six years was county clerk of Otsego county, and who had wide acquaintance throughout this portion of the state, died at the Hotel Carlton at Binghamton, where he was stopping for a short time, on Friday evening of last week. The body was taken to Utica, where for the past nine years he had resided, and where the funeral services were held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of his son, Dr. Stanley S. Reynolds, 1224 Dudley avenue. The services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Snyder of the Westminster Presbyterian church, of which he was a member, with burial beside the last resting place of his wife in the Lakewood cemetery in Cooperstown. Mr. Reynolds, for some time, had not been in good health, and had gone to Binghamton for rest and change of scene, taking a short vacation from his duties as trust officer of the Citizens' Trust company of Utica ... Mr. Reynolds was a son of George W. and Marion (Hotchkiss) Reynolds, and was born December 12, 1854, in Franklin, where his father then was publisher of the Weekly Visitor. Subsequently the family moved to Oneonta. G. W. Reynolds was for several years publisher of The Oenonta Herald. Later S. J. W. Reynolds engaged in a business in Cooperstown, conducting a bookstore on Main street, and later he was deputy county clerk ... The deceased leaves two sons, Dr. Stanley S. Reynolds, above named, and Paul Reynolds, of Syracuse. He leaves also one sister, Mrs. J. D. L. Pruyn, of South Side, Oneonta. Reynolds and children of Utica, Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Reynolds of Cuylerville, Miss Fannie Howland, Former County Clerk, R. O. Marshall, W. Arthur Holley and Henry Saunders of Oneonta."
