Donna Margaret Pond Tracy, 60, died at her home, on Monday night, May 9, 2016. Born on December 1, 1955 in Suffolk, VA, she was the wife of Dr. Kevin P. Tracy and daughter of Margaret Pinner Pond-Smith of Spartanburg and the late Samuel B. Pond, Jr.

Donna was a graduate of West Springfield (VA) High School and Richmond (VA) Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She began her nursing career in the Adolescent and Neonatal Units at the Medical College of Virginia in August, 1977; the same year she married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Tracy. Upon his completion of Medical training at MCV and his entry into the US Army, she gave up nursing for another caring profession – motherhood! After the births of their three children, she re-entered nursing at Kaiser Permanente in Tacoma, WA.

Returning to civilian life in Spartanburg, she worked in the cancer and later the subacute units at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She then became the assistant director of nursing at Magnolia Manor, and later assumed the same position at Mountainview Nursing Home.

Some of Donna’s other jobs in the nursing field included working with WRENS of Woodruff; Visiting Nurses Spartanburg County’s DHEC-sponsored program; Family Care Council teaching prenatal care and parenthood classes to students in the County High Schools; and she taught Certified Nursing Assistants classes at Spartanburg Tech.

Donna was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother as well as a dedicated and faithful worker at the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as the former chairman of the Aftercare Committee, a children’s Sunday school teacher, a devoted Circle member; and all around willing participant showing her devoted love for the Lord and His work. A wonderful cook, she was always happy to provide food for any occasion.

In addition she was a member of Modern Literature Book Club, PEO Chapter D; and the Battle of Cowpens Chapter, DAR. For a number of years she was a driver for Mobile Meals.

In addition to her husband of 39 years, and her mother, she is survived by her son, Bryan (Melissa) Tracy of Wilmington, DE; two daughters, Sarah Tracy Bell, of Simpsonville and her fiancé, Hugo Biggars of Spartanburg, and Anna Katherine Tracy of the home; grandchildren, Deidra Tracy of Wilmington, Mia and Aiden Bell of Simpsonville; two brothers, Samuel (Susan) B. Pond III of Cary, NC and Lee (Pam) Pond of Ellicott City, MD; father-in Law, James (Eva) T. Tracy of Spartanburg; two brothers-in-law, Timothy (Leslie) Tracy of Sterling, VA and Terrance (Robin) Tracy of Leesburg, VA and a sister-in-law, Erin Tracy also of Leesburg, and nine nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her maternal and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald C. Pinner and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel B. Pond, Sr. all of Suffolk, and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Patricia Tracy of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The family will receive friends at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, on Friday, May 13, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 309 Fernwood Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29307, at 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 14, 2016, with the Rev. Dale Rawlings officiating. Burial will be private.
