Gertrude Marguerite Kirschner

Gertrude Heuman Kirschner passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in Lake Jackson, TX. A lifelong resident of Galveston, Gertrude was born on December 27, 1918. She attended Galveston public schools, graduating from Ball High School in 1936. After graduation, she worked in the legal department of American National Insurance Company, but later changed her working career to insurance. She worked for several local insurance companies; the last 25 years being with Jack Heffernan Insurance Agency, where she retired in 1992.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, Edith & Howard Heuman, Sr.; her sisters, Lillian Heuman Duncanson, Edith Heuman Cannon, and Mildred Heuman Mantzel; and brother, Howard Heuman, Jr.

Gertrude is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 74 years, Alex J. Kirschner, Sr.; a daughter, Gertrude (Bitsy) Ganter and her husband, Dorrance, of Seabrook; a son, Al Kirschner, Jr. and wife, Doddie, of Lake Jackson; 6 grandchildren: Beth O'Malley and husband Tom, Nancy Ganter, Susan Ganter, Cathy Cooper and husband Clay, Jay Kirschner and wife Jennifer, and Jeff Kirschner and wife Kristi; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Ethel Mais; brother, Billy Heuman; sister-in-law, Betty Michalsky and husband, Danny; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, May, 15, 2016, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home on Broadway in Galveston. A rosary will begin at 4:30 PM.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Monday, May 16, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Galveston, with Father E. J. Stein, OFM, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jay Kirschner and Jeff Kirschner; great grandsons, Mike O'Malley, Matthew O'Malley and Daniel O'Malley; and grandson-in-law, Clay Cooper.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or charity of one’s choice
