She was born in Bulloch County, Georgia in 1925 to Donnie and Eva Bland, the youngest of eight children.
She graduated Brooklet High School and attended Georgia Southern Teachers College before moving to Savannah. She remained in Savannah the rest of her life.
She retired from PepsiCo as a manager after thirty years of service to pursue crabbing, boating, fishing, and gardening.
She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Savannah, and later active in Redeemer Lutheran Church on Wilmington Island.
She will be remembered for her quick wit, her unending devotion to her family, and most importantly her goodness, humility, and faith.
The family is very grateful for the loving care and support provided by friends and caregivers during her last years.
She is survived by her daughter Joan Brogan of Savannah and her son Michael Billings of Apalachicola, Florida; also three grandchildren, Jennifer Perdue, John Michael Drake, Sean Brogan and eight great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, and her siblings.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wilmington Island.
