ARLINGTON, TN - Paul R. Doherty, beloved husband of 54 years to Maureen M. (Sullivan) Doherty, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter on June 30, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born in Boston, on December 12, 1933 to the late Leo J. Doherty and Celia (Dolan) Doherty where he spent his childhood.

After serving his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956, Paul and Maureen married and eventually settled in Marblehead where they raised their six children.

Paul was a 1960 graduate of Boston College and 1964 graduate of New England School of Law. He worked for the Social Security Administration and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Disability.

He was an active member of the Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead and an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Marblehead, where he served as Grand Knight, and Roxbury councils.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his family. A lover of history and facts, he enjoyed playing Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed long Sunday drives and annual trips to the White Mountains of New Hampshire to view the fall foliage. When his children were growing up, he enjoyed loading up his Volkswagen Bus and taking the family on road-trips to New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, New Brunswick, Canada, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. to have his children enjoy many places of both natural and historical interest.

In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by a brother, Leo Doherty and wife, Mary of Weymouth; sister, Kathryn (Kate) Crozer of Beachwood, N.J. and the late E. Allen Crozer; his children, Paul Doherty of Marblehead, Kathleen McCarthy and husband, David of Arlington, Tenn., John Doherty and wife, Lisa of Peachtree City, Ga., Sheila Doherty of Memphis, Tenn., Kevin Doherty and wife, Jill of Summerville, S.C., and Maureen Doherty of Beverly, and 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Paul's memory to Crossroads Hospice Foundation, 1669 Shelby Oaks Drive, Memphis, TN 38134, c/o Jean Harrison.
