Born February 3, 1930, Sam graduated from St. Francis Academy and Brescia College of Owensboro, KY with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. He entered the Air Force in 1948 and during the Berlin airlift, in Germany, as an aircraft mechanic.

His wife was Louise Beaulieu, who predeceased him in 2007 after being married 55 years.

He is survived by his three children: Cindy Warner (Jackie, deceased) of Hendersonville, Jeanne Perkins (Steve) of Gallatin, TN and Vince Berry (Gisele) of Murfreesboro, TN; his four grandchildren: John Warner (Lindsey), Sam Warner, Nathan Berry and Spencer Berry; one great-grandchild: Kylie; and many nieces and nephews who called him "Uncle Sonny."
