He as the son of John Bryant and brother to John Bryant. During the Civil War he was on the staff of General Lander. After the war, he took control of the Lincoln Military Hospital in Washington, DC. On 6 Jan 1848 he married Elizabeth Brimmer Sohier, daughter of William Davies and Elizabeth Amory (Dexter) Sohier. They had five children. Dr. Bryant was collecting birds and eggs in Puerto Rico when he caught a fever and died there. Part of his collection was given to the Natural History Society of Boston.
