Eugene Caffery Hopkins, 97, of the Lake Dabinawa community of rural McLouth, died Monday, May 9, 2016 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born December 11, 1918 in Lawrence the son of Raymond Curtis and Frances Augusta Koker Hopkins. He was raised by his mother and step-father, William Harrison Hilner. He was a 1936 graduate of McLouth High School and he earned certification in h.v.a.c. and welding at Haskell Indian Junior College in Lawrence. Mr. Hopkins owned and operated Hopkins Sheet Metal in Lawrence for 35 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Lawrence Friends Church, where he served as church clerk for many years. He attended the First Baptist Church of McLouth and was a member of Gideons International. He was married to Martha C. Martin on November 24, 1940 in Tonganoxie, she preceded him in death on December 22, 2002. He is survived by one son, Terry (Fran) Hopkins, Lawrence, one daughter, Martha (David) Murphy, McLouth, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Hopkins and two brothers, Roy Hopkins and Clarence Hilner. Funeral Services at 11:00 AM, Thursday at McLouth First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 10:00 -11:00 AM, Thursday prior to service at the church. Grave Side Service at 1:30 PM, Thursday at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery.
