FORBES, Ronald G. of Brooksville (formerly of Gary/Merrillville, IN), died on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Born May 30, 1939 in Gary, IN, he was a Catholic by faith who attended Holy Angels School and graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1957. Immediately after graduating from high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He graduated boot camp at San Diego Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA (better known as "Hollywood" Marines).He came to Florida in 1994 from Merrillville, IN, where he retired after 30+ years with the Lake County Sheriff's Department in Crown Point, IN. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Chris Anton Lodge #125, Crown Point, IN; Elks Lodge #2520, Aripeka; Moose Lodge #1747 and Moose Legion #125, New Port Richey; Sons of the American Legion Post 186, Brooksville; Life Member of Marine Corps League Detachment #567, Holiday; Life Member of VFW Post 10209 Auxiliary and contact liaison for VFW Post 10209 Honor Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Betty Forbes; former wife, Dixie L. Forbes; and grandson, SSGT Michael W. Schafer. Survivors include his loving wife, Debbie; son, George Forbes, Merrillville, IN; daughter, Joni (Jeff) Dravet, Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren, Matthew (Morgan) Dravet and Sarah Dravet, Valparaiso, IN; and his great-grandchildren, Olive and Oscar Dravet. Arrangements by Turner Funeral Home Spring Hill Chapel, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, with internment in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, on Thursday, May 12, at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HPH Hospice, Brooksville, or to the VFW Post 10209 Honor Guard.
