Mr. Dwight was employed with the State of Florida as an Employment Specialist before retiring after 26 years of dedicated service. Other affiliations include being a former President of the Men's Club and Vice President of the Congregation at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Mr. Dwight was a Club Baron member, an Eagle Scout, Chairman of the David H. Dwight Sr. Committee for Scouting and one of a select few Boy Scouts of America Leaders to receive the Silver Beaver Award.
He was predeceased by his parents, David H. Dwight Sr., and Mrs. Florida Cutton Dwight; his first wife, Mrs. Ruby Hunter Dwight and his second wife Mrs. Bettye Dixon Dwight; and sister Mrs. Charlotte Stewart.
Survivors include his children, Dr. Edythe Dwight Abdullah, David H. Dwight, III (Diana), Mrs. Rhonda Blaylock Smith (Thomas) and William J. Blaylock, Jr.; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister Mrs. Lydia Wooden; brothers-in law; sisters-in-law; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service celebrating the life of Mr. David H. Dwight, Jr. will be held 11AM, Thursday, MAY 12, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2730 Edgewood Avenue, W. where he held membership. Rev. James Wiggins, Jr., Pastor, officiating. Memorialization will be by Cremation. Interment will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Friends are asked to assemble at the church under the direction of Alphonso West Mortuary, Inc, 4409 Soutel Dr. Florida Times-Union, May 10, 2016
