Melba Elizabeth Dowden Rowsey Davidson, 92, of Tyler, passed away May 4, 2016 at her home.

She was born June 8, 1923 in Harmon, LA, to Elva Zeta Lee Dowden and William Daniel Middleton Dowden. She moved to the East Texas Oil Field during childhood and graduated from Gaston High School in Joinerville. She attended one year at Baylor University and one year at Tyler Commercial College.

Before living in Tyler most of her adult life, Melba lived in Houston, TX, where she was married to Luther Rowsey, and where their two children were born.

Melba married Scurry Davidson of Tyler in 1970. He preceded her in death in 2002.

She is survived by two children, daughter Paula Anderson (wife of the late James Anderson) of Spring, TX, and daughter Cathy and husband Milton Vanderpool of Tyler, TX; by grandchildren James,Timothy and Stephen Anderson, and Amy Roberts, Bethany Ames and Lee Vanderpool; by 10 great-grandchildren, and by 12 nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by one brother, Talmadge and wife Joanne Dowden, of Henderson, TX. She was preceded in death by two siblings, William Dowden of Valparaiso, FL and Kathleen Hamilton of Henderson, TX.

A memorial gathering will be held Tuesday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. in the Parlor of First Christian Church Tyler.
