John was born August 17, 1921 in Glenham, SD, the son of John and Caroline (Aube) McCallum. John graduated from Glenham high School in 1939. John served in the United States Army from 1943-46, serving with the 96th Infantry Division in the Leyte and Okinawa campaigns. After his Honorable discharge he continued his education eventually gaining Bachelor's, Master's and Specialist degrees in education and his teacher's license and superintendent's certificate. He was united in marriage to Mary Flanagan on July 15, 1948 and to this union 7 children were born John 111, Michael, Catherine, Peter, Mark, Thomas and Patricia. John and Mary farmed in South Dakota where John was a past president and a member of the Board of Directors of the Glenham Equity Exchange for 20 years. John farmed while attending college and graduate school. He was a high school teacher and coach, taught math and English in a high school setting. In 1970 he became a High School Principal in Lake Benton, MN and from 1974-1984 he was the superintendent at Minnesota Lake High School. John was involved with the National Assoc. of School Administrators as well as the Minnesota Assoc. of School Administrators. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Minnesota Lake American Legion Post and Minnesota Lake Community Club.
John is survived by his wife Mary of Minnesota Lake, sons John 111 (Karen) and their children Monica and Elise, Michael (Rebecca) and their daughter Kim, Peter (Susan) and their sons Daniel and Thomas, Mark (Kim) and their children Katelyn, Timothy and Laura, Thomas (Lisa) and their children Connor and Kira, 7 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his daughters Patricia in infancy and Catherine.
