Raymond E. Langford passed away May 2, 2016 at the Madrone Hospice House at the age of 87. Ray leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Bernadine, as well as his children; Doug (Cheryl) Langford, Don (Sue) Langford, Lowell Langford and Mary (Steve) Neill, all of Yreka.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren; Elizabeth (Robert) Cobo, Andy (Kristen) Langford, Brian (Nikki) Langford, Matt (Sydney) Langford, Abbey (Matt) Langford, Jenney (Jayme) Langford, Sarah (Ryan) Lagerwey, Eric Neill and David Neill. Additionally, he leaves behind his brother-in-law Elwood (Cheri) Escobar, sister-in-law Josephine Langford, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Catherine Langford and his brother, Robert Langford.
Ray was born in Oakland and raised in Gustine. He graduated from Gustine High School where he met Bernadine, and then graduated from St. Mary’s College. His banking career began with Crocker Bank in San Francisco, followed by Red Bluff and then Redding. His career continued in Yreka, and ended with his retirement from Tri Counties Bank as Branch Manager in 1984.
Ray was a member of the Lion’s Club of Redding, the American Red Cross of Red Bluff, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and was a past president of the Montague Rotary.
Ray’s greatest joy was his family and the time he spent with them. He loved being outdoors, whether camping, fishing, hunting, or woodcutting. He also enjoyed his time helping out the Langford, Louie, Kuck and Sylva Ranches when an extra cowhand was needed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray’s memory to Madrone Hospice, 255 Collier Circle, Yreka, CA 96097, the National MS Society, Northern California Chapter, P.O. Box 23664, Oakland, CA 94623, or St. Joseph’s Guild, 310 Fourth St., Yreka, CA 96097.
A vigil Service and Rosary was held on Sunday, May 8th at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, May 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 310 Fourth St. in Yreka with burial at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery. A reception hosted by the family followed at the Yreka Elk’s Lodge on Miner St. in Yreka.
