Daniel Elmer Moffett, humble, modest, loving husband, father, grandfather and best friend left us peacefully on January 12, 2012 in Lakewood, Washington surrounded by his family and friends. His 92 years were well spent.

Dan was born in Rolfe, Iowa on May 16, 1919 to George and Mary Moffett. He was the youngest of four brothers. The family moved cross country in 1926 and settled in what is now Lakewood, Washington. Dan graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington.

Dan and Virginia Louise Waldrip married in 1942 and were together 52 years.

After World War II service in the U.S. Coast Guard Dan attended the College of Puget Sound and graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a teaching certificate. He later completed a Master’s Degree. He taught was a long time teacher of Industrial Arts at Mason Junior High School in Tacoma, Washington until retirement in 1979. Many students in Tacoma and his family learned from him.

Dan was a long time member of the National Education Association, an early member of Asbury Methodist Church, a founding member of Aldersgate Methodist Church in University Place, and a current member of United Church in University Place.

He was an avid lifelong antique hunter, collector, and restorer. He never met a rusty lantern or monkey wrench he didn’t like. As Master Gardners, Dan and Virginia designed their garden so that a rhododendron bloomed year round. There is one blooming now!

Dan will be remembered for his sense of humor, quiet, sensible, and industrious way of living that gave respect, comfort, and inspiration to everyone.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, and brothers Robert, George, and John.

Special thanks to the staff at Olympia Home in Lakewood for their loving and excellent care of our father.

A celebration of life service was held on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at United Church in University Place, 3912 Grandview Dr. W, University Place, WA 98466, preceded by a graveside service at 12:00 p.m. at New Tacoma Cemetery in University Place.
