The National World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. shows the N.A.R.A. report and says he was KIA.

Dec 7, 1945, the Evening Star reported in an article that he was reported initially as Missing in Action but was changed to Killed in Action by the War Dept. An enemy shell struck his Corsair fighter causing it to explode in flight on April 12, 1945. He died as a result.

On Dec. 8, 1945, the Evening Star reported in his obituary this: He was USMC fighter pilot and was shot down on 12 April 1945. He was Killed in Action in Mindano, Phillipine Islands.

The Washington Post ran the same obituary the next day.

Reburial services were held on 11 January 1950 as reported in that days edition of the Evening Star. They said he was shot down April 12, 1945.

He was a resident of Washington, D.C. and a student at Catholic U. prior to enlisting in the Marines in 1943.
He was the son of Morrell & Mary Berry and had a brother Morrell, also USMC, 1st Division WW II
