Professional Football Player. He played at the halfback and defensive back positions in the NFL for seven seasons (1942 to 1948) with the Philadelphia Eagles (merged with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1943 and were known as the Steagles). He was a member of the 1948 NFL Champion Eagles. During that game, Steele intercepted a pass on the final play to help seal the victory against the Chicago Cardinals. During his high school years, he was a stand out basketball player and track star. In a career 69 regular season games, Steele had 258 rushes for 1337 yards and 14 touchdowns.
