LAYWELL, JOHN H., Private, Company "I", 7th Regiment W. Va. Cavalry
Volunteers.Occupation, farmer; born in either Chillicothe, Ohio or Putnam
County, Virginia. At 18, he was living in Putnam County, Virginia when he
enlisted 12 Nov 1861 at Wyoming County Court House, West Virginia for a term of
three years. Mustered in 31 Dec 1861 at Buffalo, W. Va.; re-enlisted as a
veteran volunteer 01 Feb 1864; mustered out 01 Aug 1865. After the war he moved
to Texas. He died in Cameron, Milam County, Texas on 07 Nov 1928 and is buried
in Walker's Creek Cemetery, north of Cameron, Texas, off of highway 485 in the
Maysfield Community.
