Jimmy Leon James, Sr.
April 8, 1938 - May 3, 2016

Jimmy Leon James, Sr., 78, of Amarillo, Texas went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2016. He was born on April 7, 1938 to Mary Katherine James of Amarillo. Jimmy was a life-time resident of Amarillo, Texas, attending school with his childhood friends. Jimmy decided to enlist in the United States Marine Corp in 1958. After boot camp, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. In 1964, he received an honorable discharge with military decoration, and returned to Amarillo.

He met and married Sharon Sue Cook on July 17, 1967, and had one son, Jimmy L. James, Jr. in 1968. Jimmy worked for the State of Texas Prison System diligently caring for those incarcerated and retired from the prison system in 2010. Jimmy found great enjoyment in reading, music, and spending time with his grandson, Stockton. He also enjoyed the companionship of his many dogs, especially Honey.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Kathryn James of Amarillo. He is survived by a sister, Mary Catherine Arceneaux of Houma, Louisiana.; a son, Jimmy L. James Jr. and wife, Lillie Davis-James of Sanger, Texas; one grandson, Stockton Young James; and, many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Neil and Dawn Bentley, Jason Taylor and family, Becky Cox Shaw, Hospice Plus, and Corinth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their support and care they extended to Jimmy L. James, Sr. during the last year of his life.
