Pvt Wright enlisted into the US Army on August 25, 1875 in Cincinnati OH. He was described as 5'6", blue eyes, brown hair & ruddy complexion. His civilian occupation was listed as laborer.

On October 21, 1875, Wright reported for duty at Ft Lincoln in the Dakota Territory & was assigned to Company C, 7th US Cavalry. Company C was commanded by Capt Tom Custer, brother of LTC George Armstrong Custer.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company C was attached to LTC Custer's battalion. Sometime during the fighting Wright was killed.

After the battle many soldiers from Company C were found near Calhoun Ridge. But there were unconfirmed reports that a burial party had seen Wright's body on Last Stand Hill. It is likely that he was first buried where he had been found.

In 1881 all known battlefield dburials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
