Pvt Warner, during the Civil War, joined Company C, 3rd NY Volunteer Infantry Regiment on October 22, 1861, for three years.

Between 1862 & 1864, his daily duties were listed as carpenter, cook & teamster. In April 1864, he was injured from a "shell concussion" & hospitilized in Buffalo NY.

On November 17, 1864, Warner's enlistment expired, and he was discharged.

On October 8, 1875, Warner enlisted into the US Army at St Louis Barracks MO. He was described as 35 yrs old, 5'5", blue eyes, brown hair & fair complexion. His civilian occupation was listed as carpenter.

On October 21, 1875, Warren reported for duty at Ft Lincoln in the Dakota Territory. He was assigned to Company C, 7th US Cavalry. Company C was commanded by two time Medal of Honor recipient Capt Tom Custer & the brother of LTC George Armstrong Custer.

At the Battle of the Little Bighorn, Company C was attached to LTC Custer's battalion. Sometime during the fighting Warner was killed.

After the battle many soldiers from Company C were found on what had been the right flank of Company L, near Calhoun Ridge.

Warner's remains were not reported as being identified. His unidentified remains were likely first buried where they had been found.

In 1881 all known battlefield burials were moved to a mass grave on Last Stand Hill.
