HAMBY, JACKIE CAROLDINE WYRICK (NANNA) - October 6, 1939 - November 5, 2003. Mom taught for the Knox County School System for over 30 years, first at West Haven Elementary and then at Northwest Junior High School / Middle School. She was head of language arts at Northwest for many years, and also served as a teacher evaluator for the state of Tennessee. She was a member and active choir-member at Trinity Methodist Church, volunteered for the FISH ministry and enjoyed reading for preschoolers at church. Nanna loved life and loved her family. She leaves husband, Ron Hamby daughters andsons in law, Gina and Bart Whitfield, Alicia and Kevin Wilson son and fiancé, Richard Hamby and Kelli Shell granddaughters, Meredith and Shelby Whitfield and Elizabeth Wilson. Many thanks to friends and family for their support. Special thanks to Dr. Robert C. Alley and the other doctors and nurses at St. Mary's Hospital for treating her as a person and not just as a patient. In lieu of flowers, Mom requested donations be sent to the Trinity United Methodist Church's Building Fund, or the Lupus Foundation of America, East TN Chapter. There is also a scholarship set up in her name: Jackie Hamby Scholarship Fund, c/o Knoxville Teacher's Credit Union, 104 E. 5th Ave., Knoxville, TN, 37917. A service to celebrate her life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 5613 Western Ave., Knoxville, TN 37921, on Saturday, November 8th at 10:30am.
